Potted Plants – Grown for Bloom

RULES AND REGULATIONS:

1. Theme: This showcase is inspired by the convention theme and linked to the other showcase
categories through the class title “Inspired by Nature, Learning, Growing, Blooming” to stimulate
creative expression and viewing interest.

2. Eligibility: The showcase is open to members in good standing of a Society/Club (hereafter Society) in good standing with the Ontario Horticultural Association (OHA). This showcase is “for interest only” and will not be judged. Be “inspired” and enter the Showcase. We want to see what grows in your District at this time of year!

3. Entry:
a. All photos must be submitted between June 1 and June 30, 2021. There is a limit of 10 entries in all Design and Special Exhibit Division classes. There is a limit of 15 entries in all horticultural classes.
b. Entries must include the section, class number and exhibitor’s name in the submission subject line. (e.g. Sec B, Class 23, Jane Doe)
c. All entries must include: the class number, the plant’s common name, botanical name if known, exhibitors name, horticultural society and district. This information may be printed on a 10 cm x 15 cm (4” x 6”) card propped up and clearly visible in the photograph.
d. Each exhibitor is limited to one photograph per entry, and only one entry per class.
e. All entries must be recently created, original, and not previously published, displayed, or entered elsewhere in any competition.
f. Ontario Judging and Exhibiting Standards for Floral Design and Horticulture - Second Edition OJES 2019 applies to this showcase.

4. Entries – General:
a. Exhibitors may enter all Divisions.
b. All entries should be photographed on a white or neutral surface and background if possible.
c. Do not use harmful, invasive, scarce and/or species at risk.

5. Entries – Horticulture: NOTE: No accessories are permitted in horticultural classes.
All horticultural entry photos must be taken between June 1, 2021 and June 30, 2021. We want to see what grows in your district at this time of year!
a. Photos must be submitted between June 1 and June 30, 2021. All classes are limited to 15 entries.
b. Entries should include: the class number, the plant’s common name, botanical name if known, exhibitors name, horticultural society and district. This information may be printed on a 10 cm x 15 cm (4” x 6”) card propped up and clearly visible in the photograph.
c. All entries should be in clear glass containers.
d. All exhibits must have been grown by the exhibitor. Potted houseplants and potted plants must have been in the possession of the exhibitor for at least three months prior to exhibiting.
e. For Potted Plants (Section F), pot slipcovers are allowed but should be unobtrusive, see OJES
(2019) pg. 12.

6. Entries – Special Exhibits: NOTE: Accessories are permitted in all Special Exhibit classes. Pre-register by June 1, 2021 with registrar
Special Exhibits photos must be taken after June 1, 2021
a. Photos must be submitted between June 1 and June 30, 2021 after receiving confirmation of being registered. All classes are limited to 10 entries.
b. Exhibitors may enter any number of Special Exhibits classes.
c. Entries must include: the class number, exhibitors name, horticultural Society/Club, District and a list of the plants used including the common name and botanical name (if known). This information may be printed on a 10 cm x 15 cm (4” x 6”) card (minimum size) clearly visible in the photograph. See OJES (2019) pg. 118.
d. All entries should be photographed on a white or neutral surface and background if possible.
e. Each exhibitor is limited to one photograph per entry, per class.
f. Special Exhibits should conform to OJES (2019) definitions in the glossary.
g. Plant material used in Special Exhibits may be obtained from any source and may be newly acquired.

7. Entries – Design: NOTE: Accessories are permitted in design classes.
Pre-register by June 1, 2021 with registrar
Design photos must be taken after June 1, 2021
a. Photos must be submitted between June 1 and June 30, 2021 after receiving confirmation of being registered. All classes are limited to 10 entries.
b. Exhibitors may enter any number of design classes.
c. All designs must be created by the exhibitor.
d. All entries should be photographed on a white surface with a white background if possible.
e. Each exhibitor is limited to one photograph per entry per class.
f. Plant material must predominate over other components of the exhibit. No artificial plant material is allowed.
g. No soil is permitted in design exhibits. Decorative sand is permitted.
h. Plant material may be obtained from any source and may be painted or dyed.
8. Viewing information will be announced on the convention website.
